How do I become a member?

The majority of our members must be UC Berkeley alumni, defined as graduates or other former undergraduate, graduate, or extension students of, or current graduate students of, UC Berkeley. We also welcome Berkeley faculty and staff, and alumni of other UC campuses, as well as a smaller number of community members who are not affiliated with the University of California in any of those ways.

We audition potential new members twice a year, in August and January. We expect some choral experience and ability to sightread. Please fill out the below Audition Interest Form, and when auditions are being scheduled, the Chorus Manager will contact you with more information and an invitation to sign up for an audition time with our Music Director.

When are rehearsals?

We rehearse on campus in the Choral Rehearsal Hall on the lower level of the Cesar Chavez Center. Rehearsals are held Monday evenings, 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., during the fall and spring semesters, from approximately the end of August through early December, and mid to late January through early May. There is an additional weekend retreat in the fall and a Saturday retreat in the spring, and there may be additional dress rehearsals scheduled before each performance.

What kind of music do you sing?

One of the hallmarks of the UC Alumni Chorus is the diversity of music we perform - concerts range in both style and era from works of Baroque and Romantic masters to living composers, from early sacred music to modern jazz and musical theater, and all else in between and beyond. We have performed large concert pieces with full orchestra as well as intimate a cappella pieces. Take a look at our calendar for past seasons to see the diversity of our repertoire.
